Burlesque ‘rattle’ between a man and a woman
[No place of publication, no date]
This dialogue, a ‘burlesque rattle’ between a man and woman, is characterized by an attractive image and, unusually, by the use of abbreviations in the text. Here the man courting the woman is rebuffed in witty, but in no way uncertain terms. The man, with his romantic courtesy, comes off the worst in the encounter, his elegant vocabulary contrasting with earthy discourse from the lady. He is ‘wrong’ for not understanding the situation, but eventually responds in kind.
