An historical account (2)

William Mudford (1782–1848)
An historical account of the campaign in the Netherlands, in 1815, under His Grace the Duke of Wellington, and Marshal Prince Blucher…
London: H. Colburn, 1817
Lib.3.81.21, plate XXVII (‘Frontispiece’)

The ornate engraved ‘frontispiece’—in effect, a half-title page—of Mudford’s Historical account was also the work of George Cruikshank. At the top, Wellington is shown receiving the victor’s laurels. At the foot are the two eagles captured from the 45th and 105th French line regiments and subsequently presented to the Prince Regent by Major Henry Percy, together with Wellington’s Waterloo despatch, at Mrs Boehm’s ball in London at around midnight on 21 June.
