The cosmopolitan nature of Wellington’s army is illustrated here by the uniform of a staff officer in a Leichtes Dragoner-Regiment of the King’s German Legion, a British Army unit of expatriate German personnel raised initially after Hanover—also ruled by the British royal house—was occupied by French forces in 1803. This interesting ‘fact-book’ detailed many aspects of the Legion’s extensive service during the Napoleonic Wars.
