The story of Romeo and Juliet is printed here in the first collection of all of Shakespeare’s works, known as the First Folio, printed in 1623. The book includes 36 plays, and is believed to give the best text for at least 20 of them, some of which had never been published before. It is considered such an important book that the last few copies to have been sold at auction cost between £1,800,000 and £3,000,000. This copy has been digitised and you can read any of the plays by clicking ‘Open Digital Library’.
