Processionarium Praedicatorum
Seville, 1519
The Dominican Processional was printed as an incunable edition in 1494 and a copy of this exists in Cambridge University Library as Inc.5.H.4.4[4585]. This copy was printed by Meynardus Ungut and Stanislaus Polonus in Seville. This edition lacked a frontispiece illustration and the later 1519 edition, also printed in Seville but by Jacob Cromberger, has been chosen here for its fine frontispiece of St Dominic flanked by the Dominican saints, Vincent Ferrer, Thomas Aquinas, Peter Martyr and Catherine of Siena. The text content is rather different than Processionals for other uses which are usually arranged according to the Temporal beginning with Advent and a Sanctoral containing all the main feasts. The Dominican Processional begins with the services from the Purification to Corpus Christi, followed by a few feasts of the Sanctoral. Editions were printed with some revised texts after the Council of Trent from 1590 onwards. The last edition seems to have been in 1949.
