The lives of the good and the bad student

The good student is obedient, compliant, and studious. In later life he shows virtues of mercy, and is mourned at his death. The bad student appears to have been born with rebellious ways and proceeds to a life of dissipation, finally committing suicide. It is not clear how much the ways of these two examples are pre-determined.
