Albrecht Dürer (1471–1528)
Institutionum geometricarum libri quatuor
Paris: Christian Wechel, 1535
Thomas Knyvett and John Moore after him were both fascinated by science and interactions with the natural world. This copy of Dürer’s first work on geometry, in the translation by Camerarius, was bound by Knyvett with Dürer’s beautifully illustrated and influential work on human proportion, showing the changing proportions of the body from childhood to maturity. Both works remain in excellent condition, with all the folding diagrams–such as this, illustrating the dimensions of a shadow–intact.
