Martin Luther (1483–1546)
Catechesis Martini Lutheri parva
Basel: Johann Oporinus, 1567

Many of Moore’s books hold hidden secrets within their covers; this volume of Luther was bound with leaves from a fourteenth-century French liturgical manuscript used as endpapers. Beneath this, the paper boards are made from scrap sheets of an as yet unidentified early printed work. If the manuscript endpapers had not come unstuck, the printed leaves would have remained hidden; serendipitous discoveries like this abound among Moore’s books.
