Unusual and elaborate black ink chapter initials characterize this manuscript, each of which contains a motto or sentence. Long, calligraphic initials often form grotesque faces, tinted in yellow. First noted as having been owned by John Teye in the sixteenth century, the manuscript was eventually acquired by John Moore (d. 1714) and passed then to King George I, who presented it to the University Library in 1715.
