Edmond Guillaume, “Bismarck”, Les Génies de la Mort, No 4.

This print shows German Chancellor Otto von Bismarck’s skull entombed in his pointed Prussian helmet. On his forehead is engraved the German Imperial Eagle. For Edmond Guillaume, Bismarck’s war included brutality on the battlefield as well as relentless sieges of cities such as Strasbourg, Paris and Metz. Below lies a village ablaze: the shadow of war looms large over innocent civilians.
