One of the more extreme examples of a bandit narrative,in which boastfulness about excess of wrongdoing comes as a catalogue of evil deeds. It turns into just that, a catalogue, and one has the sense of an infantile, or at least immature, desire to produce a shocking account. Some editions of this often-printed tale of bandits from the hills of Toledo date from the middle of the eighteenth century. The image of these bandits is far more staid than the extremities of their violent actions.
