Recipe to give to unhappily married women
Cordoba: en la imprenta de Luis de Ramos, y Coria, [1798–1825?]
This work describes itself as a “recipe for unhappily married women”. The overall suggestion to these wives is that the fault is theirs, since the remedies revolve around pleasing their husbands. The details here are such, however, that what emerges is a criticism of the husbands. The ‘protesting too much’ about what wives should do can thus be read more subtly as a veiled satire of some stereotyped characteristics of married men.
