Sir Walter Scott (1771–1832)
The field of Waterloo: a poem
Edinburgh: printed by James Ballantyne & Co. for Archibald Constable and Co. [etc.], 1815
Keynes.H.2.8, title page
The novelist and poet Walter Scott visited Waterloo barely seven weeks after the battle, set ‘on fire’, as he said, by an account sent in a letter from Brussels from Sir Charles Bell. His poem The field of Waterloo was written in aid of the subscription set up in Britain to assist the wounded and the families of the dead, and was published before the end of October 1815.
