Andreas Vesalius, De humani corporis fabrica libri septem, Basel: ex. off. J. Oporini, 1543, pp. 368 and 395, woodcut, leaf height 43 cm, N*.1.2(A).
The poses in the muscle figures were repeated further in these woodcuts that show the veins (left) and the arteries (right) in the shape of a human figure that is reminiscent of one of the muscle figures. Juxtaposing these images show how the description of the veins is much more detailed than that of the arteries, which probably has to do with the fact that veins were regarded as more significant, particularly in relation to bloodletting.
