Andreas Vesalius, De humani corporis fabrica libri septem, Basel: ex. off. J. Oporini, 1543 (from left to right), pp. 208, 206, 203, 200, 197, 194, woodcut, leaf height 43 cm, N*.1.2(A).
The landscape of the muscle figures from the back also form a continuous scene, and it is possible to appreciate the similarity and symmetry of the poses. The first and fourth figures from the right share a similar gesture, with one foot forward and arms stretched out, which corresponds to the poses of the anterior muscle figures. The second, third and fifth figures from the right also share the gesture of putting one arm up, which again is repeated in two of the anterior figures. Note also how the head is tilted in different directions to show different aspects of the neck and the head.
