London: Julian Notary, 1510
The book was printed in London in 1510 and bound soon after, so the frisket sheet would presumably have been used to print a book in London before 1510. As a material text, a document whose physical characteristics relate to the information it contains, this book neatly encompasses the shift from book to manuscript culture. Fragments of manuscripts were used in its production (to print the red elements on the title page) and in its physical structure (a frisket sheet was removed from its binding), and the title vignette depicts the presentation and reading of books and manuscripts at this transitional moment.
