Catalogue of the incunabula
Cambridge, before 1736
The first attempt to produce a listing of the University Library’s early printed books, this manuscript catalogue was most likely compiled at Middleton’s direction. It lists some 240 incunabula from Moore’s collection amongst a total of 382 titles, arranged in a best attempt at chronological order: Caxton’s Mirror of the world (within this thematic section) is included, dated to 1480. Numerous attempts were made over the succeeding centuries to catalogue the incunabula; a five-year project, completed in 2014, finally did justice to Moore’s 465 pre-1501 books.
