Early borrowing from the Royal Library

Pomponius Mela
De chorographia
Milan: [Pamfilo Castaldi], 25 September 1471

Almost as soon as Moore’s books had arrived in the Library they were in demand from scholars, as might be expected given the heavy use they had experienced while in his private collection. One of the earliest to be borrowed, according to a grace of 22 August 1719, was this copy of Pomponius Mela taken by one Mr Hayley. The text was collated against an ‘ancient manuscript’, as noted here, and there are further extensive annotations throughout the volume; these range from the sixteenth to the eighteenth centuries.
