Lending to all comers

John Wing (1643–1726)
An almanack for the year of our Lord God 1703
Cambridge: John Hayes, 1703

The Library holds around a decade of Moore’s annotated almanacks, a pocket diary usually interleaved with blank pages by the owner for the addition of personal notes. This account of books borrowed by John Ernest Grabe, the chaplain of Christ Church, Oxford, is typical of the notes Moore kept of loans, though unusual in that it is in the hand of the borrower. The Antwerp Bible he refers to was the famous Plantin Polyglot printed between 1568 and 1573, which came to the Library alongside the rest of Moore’s Bibles.
