OCTOBER / NOVEMBER 1917

This first group of exhibits looks at events and their consequences from October/November 1917 (the overlap reflecting the Julian/Gregorian calendar difference, as explained through the first exhibit). The immediate impact of the October Revolution is shown in postcards of Moscow buildings affected by fighting, followed by the famous accounts of the revolution by John Reed and Louise Bryant. The influence of the revolution on the arts is then introduced with images from a book on Soviet fabric design, a 1918 publication of Aleksandr Blok’s The twelve, and a book on Russian Futurism.
