NOVEMBER / DECEMBER 1917

Three areas are the main subjects of this group of exhibits, starting with the launch of the Brest-Litovsk negotiations. A full armistice was agreed between Soviet Russia and the Central Powers in December, providing peace on that front at least. Secondly, we look at Ukraine, where the fallout of the October Revolution was intensifying. A history of 1917/18 Ukraine is one of the items featured, followed by postcards of Kiev and Odessa in the final years of imperial Russian power. Finally, the post-October economy is introduced, with an excerpt from a decree by Lenin and an early Soviet banknote.
