The Flemish nobleman Jean de Wavrin (c. 1395–c. 1475) was in the service of the Duke of Burgundy, John the Fearless (reigned 1404–1419), and fought against the French in the Duke’s army alongside his English allies at Agincourt (1415). Wavrin was struck by the lack of attention paid to the valour of English kings and nobles and remedied this in writing his Chroniques between 1446 and 1471. This engaging narrative provides one of the most authoritative accounts of the War of the Roses.
