The text of the opening folio of MS Mm.3.1 is framed by a border of gold bars and white vine scrollwork inhabited by birds, a hare and putti. The wreath at the foot of the page contains the arms of Pope Pius II who commissioned and first owned the manuscript. It was decorated by Gioacchino di Giovanni de Gigantibus who worked on several other manuscripts for the Pope.
