University Library, MS Add. 2709 (1)
France? thirteenth/fourteenth century
Vellum, 87 x 265 mm (87 x 180 mm), 2 ff.
This fragment is from the Chronique, a world history written for the nobleman Badouin d’Avesnes (Oizy, 1219–Avesnes, 1295) which circulated widely during the Middle Ages. This bifolium was found in the Library’s collections in 1912. The initial letter ‘Q’s which are visible here mark each new section of the narrative. The first is seen in the opening word, Quant … (‘When …’).
