In 1509 Lady Margaret made a donation of books to Christ’s College in order to provide for the needs of its fellows and members. The composition of the collection was inspired by the great humanist and saint, John Fisher (Beverley, 1469–Tower Hill, 1535), a close advisor. Fisher was one of the outstanding intellectual personalities of his time, a student and later Chancellor of the University of Cambridge. His interests are reflected by the notable presence in the donation of recent editions of humanistic texts, such as this copy of Poliziano’s work.
