Reading for all: newspapers


Among the numerous printed broadsides, pamphlets, chapbooks and other publications presenting news, rumours and opinions in the seventeenth century, a number of titles were established with regular cycles of publication. The first daily newspaper in London, the Daily Courant, was founded in 1702 and numerous provincial papers were also published at regular intervals. As well as news, both foreign and domestic, and opinion pieces, early newspapers also included advertisements., NPR Misc.4
