Commentaries: Islamic law

Fīrūzābādī al-Shīrāzī, Abū Isḥāq Ibrāhīm ibn ʻAlī ibn Yūsuf (ca 1003–1083)
Al-Najm al-thāqib fī sharḥ tanbīh al-ṭālib; a commentary by Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad, Shirbīnī (d. 1570) on the Tanbīh al-ṭālib of Fīrūzābādī al-Shīrāzī
1634

A commentary by the sixteenth-century writer Shirbīnī, on an eleventh-century work of Islamic law. The text clearly demonstrates how the liberal use of marginal notes and footnotes by subsequent readers was commonplace in texts from the Middle Eastern tradition. These annotations became works of commentary in their own right in later versions of the texts. The manuscript dates from 1634 CE.
