Paris: Éditions de l’Île de France, [1945]
This book records the scuttling of the French fleet in the harbour at Toulon on 27 November 1942. The Germans had surrounded Toulon, to take over the fleet and hand it to Italy. Orders to scuttle it were given by the Vichy admiralty as the Germans entered the naval arsenal. A few submarines escaped and most of the cruisers were salvaged by the Italians. The book consists of six unbound foldings in covers; this colophon by is André Hofer (1890–1973).
