Roberto Valturio (1405–75) De re militari

[Verona]: Johannes Nicolai de Verona, 1472

This celebrated edition of the military treatise of Roberto Valturio was the first incunabulum illustrated with technical woodcuts. In this copy Valturio’s captions to the images of war machines were supplied in manuscript by Felice Feliciano (1433–c. 1480), a famous antiquarian, humanist and scribe from Verona. His contribution corroborates the hypothesis that he collaborated in the production of this edition and its illustrations.
