Salomo III, Bishop of Constance (c. 860–919 or 920), Glossae ex illustrissimis auctoribus collectae

[Augsburg: Monastery of SS. Ulrich and Afra, c. 1474]

The first owner of this compendium of Latin glossaries was the physician and humanist Hartmann Schedel (1440–1514), author of one of the most famous books of the fifteenth century, the Nuremberg Chronicle. Schedel probably acquired this book in Nuremberg where he moved from Amberg in 1482, as the binding is attributable to a Nuremberg bindery. The book has no bespoke decoration, and the presence of marginalia in a hand distinct from Schedel’s suggests the book had at least one previous owner.
