The edition of Priscian’s works on grammar by Benedetto Brugnoli, a well-known editor of classics and teacher of grammar, rhetoric and philosophy in Venice, was an early bestseller with thirteen incunabular editions. This copy made its way rapidly from Venice to Cambridge; it is in a contemporary binding by an anonymous binder, W.G., active in Cambridge around 1500. The printing press did not arrive in Cambridge until the 1520s, so scholars and students were dependent on the importation of books, usually in sheets, to be bound and sold locally.
