Bookplate for André Raffalovich
Wood engraving by Eric Gill

In 1925 Eric Gill produced this design for a bookplate. It was commissioned by Canon John Gray for his friend André Raffalovich. Raffalovich already used a bookplate designed by Austin Osman Spare in 1910 of what appeared at first glance to be a delicate flower but was in fact comprised of birds and a satyr-like mask.
