The third in the series of six consecutive openings in the notebook with drafts of the second section of Part I of Czargrad. On the right-hand page a note by Riley describes the circumstances of the writing of the poem, explains the choice of title, and refers to quotations from works by Rainer Maria Rilke and William Carlos Williams, before mockingly undercutting the possible usefulness of the note.
