In this copy of Part I, Riley used capital roman numerals to number the two sections. In the published poem (and in later drafts and when referring to the poem in his letters) Riley used capital roman numerals for the parts, while the Arabic numeral ‘2’ headed the second section of Part I. Purple felt-tip pen has been used to obliterate the ‘ern’ in ‘Western’.
