In the letter to Michael Grant of 18 November [1973], Riley wrote that ‘part four is well into. I hesitate to send that now; to do so would be to court immediate changes (obscurely put – I mean that if I sent it today I’d be bound to change it […] tomorrow)’. These drafts, manuscript and typescript following each other on the same page, are a version of the final section of Part IV.
