The Soviet space programme was celebrated in all kinds of packaging and goods, such as this Sputnik cigarette box from 1958. The launch of Sputnik 1 satellite in late 1957 was an enormous achievement and saw the start of the intense Soviet-United States Space Race. The satellite commemorated by these cigarettes is Sputnik 3, launched in 1958.
