From the Lewis cabinet

A rectangular plate of metal displaying the letters of the Persian alphabet in thuluth script. Lewis’s own name appears in the two top corners of the upper section and the date 1709 appears in the lower section at the left side. The ornamental nature of the script reflects his interest in calligraphy which is also displayed in his scrapbook.
