“The Imperial menagerie” series by Paul Hadol starts with Napoleon III, “the great vulture of Sedan” (after the French defeat against the Prussians in September 1870), grabbing his prey, France, pictured as a dead, disembowelled, naked female figure. Napoleon III is presented as a repellent, sadistic and perverted murderer, directly responsible for the mutilation and destruction of the country.
