The ILN’s ‘English Homes’ series sometimes reveals the extent to which Brown’s work could be overshadowed by new and striking spectacles introduced after his death. While Brown’s landscaping was still very evident at Chatsworth in Derbyshire, in his article for the English Homes series, Rose made no mention of Brown and instead referred repeatedly to the estate’s more recent incumbent designer, Joseph Paxton. Nevertheless, in most instances Brown’s work continued to be acknowledged visually and verbally.
