Badminton

‘Badminton, (general view), Gloucestershire’ in J. P. Neale, Jones’ Views of the Seats, Mansions, Castles, etc. of Noblemen and Gentlemen, in England. London: Jones and Company, 1829–31, Second ser., III, p.40

John Preston Neale was an architectural draughtsman and, as such, much of his published work focused on great houses rather than the parks that surrounded them. However, following literary convention, Views of the Seats, Mansions, Castles, etc. incorporated historical notes and remarks on the gardens depicted. Published in two series between 1824 and 1839, it comprised no fewer than 732 plates and guided readers through a number of Brown landscapes.
