Judaeo-Arabic synopsis

Avicenna (Ibn Sīnā)
Canon of Medicine, Judaeo-Arabic synopsis
Paper, rubricated headings, Egypt, 11th–13th century
T-S AS 166.149

The well-organised structure of Avicenna’s Canon made it a very effective teaching tool. This fragment preserves a Judaeo-Arabic synopsis of portions of the Third Book of the Canon devoted to the treatment of respiratory illnesses, and in particular pleurisy and pneumonia. Abridged versions of the Canon are attested in Arabic, Hebrew, Latin and vernaculars during medieval and early modern times.
